There are a lot of screens you can utilize against a 2-3 zone. But more than just the screens you use, it’s important to think about a couple of key components:
1. If you screen the middle person of a 2-3 they’re usually responsible for covering multiple sides of the floor. And if they have a hard time getting to their coverage area it can cause confusion. It can be really valuable to pick on the middle defender of a 2-3 zone.
2. Anytime you can use a smash screen and get to the outside with an overload, you’re likely to create a 2 on 1 situation.
3. Decide what offensive players should do ‘after’ they screen the zone. It’s important to have a clear plan of action for players once they set a screen against the zone.
Screening a zone is an effective zone attacking strategy that causes confusion for the defense and creating confusion when playing against a zone is a key principle for zone-attacking success.
